Three poachers, including a former Sarpanch, were arrested on Friday in connection with the recent killing of a forest guard in Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district.

The poachers were held during a joint operation by Baripada police and forest department officials.

Former Sarpanch Buddhadev Singh is found to be involved in this incident. The other two poachers have been identified as Sukalal Marndi and Dogul Singh.

Notably, 35-year-old forest guard Bimal Kumar Jena was killed by a mob on Monday. Bimal was on patrol duty in the area bordering the Similipal Tiger Reserve when he encountered a poacher. According to reports, a poacher shot him in the chest while he was seizing their weapons. The forest personnel died on the spot due to the exchange of fire.

About 13 people are suspected to be involved in this murder case.

According to police sources, a joint combing operation is on and will continue until all poachers involved in the murder are arrested.
