Both Samra and her elder brother Ravinder, who is also a gangster, were invited to the wedding. They were equated with ethnic gangs.
Ottawa: In a suspected case of gang conflict, a 28-year-old man from Punjab, who was on the Canadian police's list of most violent gangsters, was shot dead by strangers at a wedding venue in Vancouver, Canada.
According to local newspaper Vancouver Sun, Amarpreet (Chakki) Samra was on the dance floor at the Fraserview banquet hall with other wedding guests less than 30 minutes before the shooting on Fraser Street.
In this marriage, both Samra and her elder brother Ravinder are also gangsters. They were equated with ethnic gangs.
Some guests told media persons that some unknown person entered the hall and ordered the DJ to stop the music. About 60 guests were present at that time.
"Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported that patrolling officers performed CPR on the victim outside a South Vancouver banquet hall near Fraser Street and Southeast Marine Drive at 1:30 p.m., but he died of his injuries," he said. A police statement said.
Investigators believe it was a shooting related to an ongoing gang dispute. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500, it added.
In August 2022, Canadian police issued a rare warning about 11 men involved in gang violence. Police have warned the public to stay away from them. Of the 11 people mentioned in the warning, nine were with Amarpreet and his brother Ravinder from Punjab.
