'Hope one day he gets into CSK, MS Dhoni wants players like him': Sanjay Manjrekar's wishes for struggling Indian cricketers
IPL 2023 saw some veteran India stars perform impressively and the next generation also justified the hype. Ajinkya Rahane, Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra, Mohit Sharma have shown that they have a lot left in the tank while Shudman Gill, Yashasi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnu and others have shown that the future of Indian cricket is in safe hands.
However, it was not a happy season for all as few struggled to get going
Sunrisers Hyderabad finished at the bottom of the standings with a host of their stars, the franchise unable to justify paying huge sums to secure their services.
Among them was Mayank Agarwal who was released by Punjab Kings last December before SRH bought him for Rs 8.25 crore.
In the ongoing IPL season, Agarwal averaged 270 runs in 10 innings with a low strike rate of 128.57.
However, he showed glimpses of his old self during SRH's final match of IPL 2023 against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, scoring a 46-ball 83 - his only half-century of the season.
This helped SRH post 200/5 but Cameron Green's maiden century and Rohit Sharma's half century helped MI chase down in just 18 overs.
The current season has been slightly better for Agarwal who managed 196 runs in 14 matches for PBK last year.
Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer and now a popular commentator, feels that Agarwal can revive his career by taking over four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings.
“My heart goes out to Mayank Agarwal. The Indian player, a class player but has lost his way in the IPL playing for various franchises over the years. "He was overwhelmed with the responsibility of captaincy and it threw him off a bit," Manjrekar told Star Sports.
“Just hoping and praying that one day he will come to CSK because if he is in that culture, he is going to thrive. MS Dhoni wants players like him, batsmen like him who think team first "He is a pure heart and an extraordinary player," he said.

He was talking about CSK captain MS Dhoni's recent comments on the qualities a franchise looks for in a player.
“I think we need to pick and choose the players first - don't worry about individual performances and perform best in the knockout stages. It's hard to judge from the outside, we try to adjust to the players and the environment as well "Even if they come in at 10%, we can adjust 50% to make them fit better in the team," Dhoni said after CSK's clinical win over Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
