By Sumi Rajappan: Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Kanker have put up a banner in support of women wrestlers who have been protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh. Singh is accused of sexual harassment.
The banner was prominently displayed on the Janakpur to Chhotebethia road, demanding the immediate arrest of Brij Bhushan, who is also a BJP MP.
The Naxals have also criticised the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign, labelling it as "mere hypocrisy". The banner was erected by the Partapur Area Committee in the region that falls under the jurisdiction of the Bande police station.
India's top wrestlers, who were dragged and removed from their protest site at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi last week, have given a five-day ultimatum to the government to take action against Brij Bhushan Singh. Wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Sangeeta Phogat and Bajrang Punia, have been at the forefront of protests against the WFI chief since April this year.
