A minor died after being dragged half a kilometer by a bus in Odisha
The incident created tension in the local area as hundreds of local buses blocked the road demanding action against the driver.
In a tragic road accident on Tuesday morning, a 14-year-old girl was killed after she was hit and dragged by a bus for about 14 km on the Sonepur-Bolangir road near Gentala tehsil of Bolangir district. The father and sister of the deceased were seriously injured in the accident.
The incident sparked a local uproar, demanding action against the driver and justice for the family. Traffic on the road was stopped due to the road blockade.
According to sources, Binpani Pandey of Brahmanipali village was going to Puintala block on a motorcycle along with her two daughters to update AADHAAR card. Binapani was riding the bike and his daughters were sitting on the pillion. When they reached Gentala Tehsil, they were hit by a private bus named 'Ganpati' coming from behind. Binpani and her two daughters fell to the ground due to the impact. One of his daughters came under the wheel of the bus which dragged him for half a kilometer and died on the spot.
Locals immediately rushed Binapani and her daughter to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital where they learned to fight for their lives.
In another incident, a crane driver who was employed to remove a truck from the road died in Baripada this morning.
According to information, a truck going from Baripada to Balasore overturned on the Baripada-Balasore National Highway No-18 at Baripada on Tuesday morning. After being informed, ASI Pradeep Raut from Baisinga police station reached the spot to supervise the rescue operation. A tow truck was deployed to remove the truck from the road. During the rescue operation, a speeding car hit the crane driver and the ASI, killing the former.
