IPL 2023: "How unfair is it to GT?" - Irfan Pathan said on Twitter that the interception gave CSK the advantage
CSK beat GT by 5 wickets via DLS method after being asked to chase 171 in 15 overs due to rain.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday night.
MS Dhoni-led side beat the 2022 champions by five wickets to win their fifth IPL championship. The game was stopped due to rain on Monday, cutting CSK's run to five overs At the close, the team batted three deliveries.
With 15 overs to play, the new format meant no bowler had a four over quota for the Gujarat Titans and former India bowler Irfan Pathan said this worked in CSK's favour.
“CSK opened the batting against Shami yesterday in a rain-shortened final. Rashid and Mohit have lost one each from their regular quota of 4 overs. This means that the top 3 wicket takers in the league missed 18 balls and had no wickets. This definitely played to CSK's advantage,” Pathan tweeted.
However, this did not sit well with CSK fans on Twitter, who pointed out good reasons why CSK really struggled in the final after being asked to chase 171 runs in 15 overs.
