Ceremonial handing over of Sengol to Prime Minister Modi at the new Parliament Building to be inaugurated tomorrow Top points
Adenams, who arrived in Delhi from Chennai earlier today, gave Sengol to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. The development comes a day before the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday.
Prime Minister Modi met Adenam this evening and took his blessings. According to information, Sengol will be installed in the Lok Sabha Chamber of the new Parliament tomorrow between 8:30 am and 9 am.
About the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday:
01- Sengol was handed over to PM Modi by Adinam today. Prime Minister Modi thanked the audience and said that he was privileged to meet them in this residence. "After independence, it would have been better if the sacred Sengol had been given its respect and given an honorable status. But this Sengol was displayed as a walking stick in Prayagraj Anand Bhavan. Your 'service' and our government brought Sengol from Anand Bhavan," he said.
02- In 1947, when the British handed over power to the Indians, the Prime Minister symbolized by handing over a Sengol (scepter) to the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Sri La Sri Thambiran, the deputy of the audience of Tribhuvaduthurai Adenam, gave the Sengole to Lord Mountbatten, who returned it.
It has its golden scepter in the Chola Empire, where it was used to symbolize the transfer of power from one king to another. It had a carving of Nandi on it, which is said to be a symbol of justice
03- Sengol ignited a war of words between the BJP and the Congress, with the latter rejecting the gold scepter as a symbol of the "transfer of power" from the British to the Indians.
Taking a swipe at the grand old party, Smriti Irani said the Congress has called Sengol a walking stick, wondering what the Gandhi family thinks about democracy.
04- Tomorrow morning between 8:30 and 9 AM, Sengol will be installed by PM Modi in Lok Sabha Chamber of New Parliament Building. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will honor Adenam and Bhumidi Bangaru Jewellers, who made Sengol.
05- Around 25 parties are expected to attend the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday. However, 20 opposition parties have decided to boycott the inauguration of Prime Minister Modi instead of President Draupadi Murmu.
